Congregation Beth El
BBI CONSTRUCTION
Congregation Beth El
Berkeley, CA

Client:  Congregation Beth El
Architect:  Moore Ruble Yudel

New construction of a 30,000 sq. ft. cast-in-place (CIP) and wood-frame building for classrooms, administrative offices, library, synagogue, and social hall. The sanctuary has an occupancy of 435 congregants that can expand to 700 when space is opened. Utilizing sustainable building practices, the project includes a geothermal fuel heating system consisting of 48 wells, each 250 feet deep, which provide 100% of heating and cooling; radiant heat in the school wing; and sustainable finishes such as Hardiplank siding, cork flooring, and high-content fly ash concrete. Extensive site work involved restoration of an adjacent stream, restoration of meadows, multiple playgrounds, garden area, and formal entryway with fountains.
